Makoto Shinkai turned the animation industry on its head by producing Voices Of A Distant Star entirely on his home computer. Now there are dozens of other animators doing the same thing in Japan. In this first part, the focus is on laying the foundations, with an overview on writing a script, creating a storyboard, recording a scratch track, and creating animatics…all using software you can get for free or almost nothing!
